I believe ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23) We live in a fallen world and have been cursed by Adam’s sin. Genesis 3 gives us the account of God’s punishment for sin.
17 To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’
“Cursed is the ground because of you;
through painful toil you will eat food from it
all the days of your life.
18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
and you will eat the plants of the field.
19 By the sweat of your brow
you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
and to dust you will return.”
21 The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. 22 And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” 23 So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken.
We are cursed to work hard and eat from the ground. God even made clothes from animal skin to cover Adam and Eve in their nakedness. This shame was part of the consequence of sin. We are surrounded by sin and, though we choose not to commit sin, we still live in sin. Sometimes we don’t realize we are sinning.
I used to walk in to church late, take the bulletin, sit down and read it, all while church was going on. Reading the bulletin, in and of itself, is not a sin. For me to read it during the service was a distraction to me and those around me. It was taking away from worshiping God. It was a sin.
When Jesus told the woman to “go and sin no more,” (John 8:11) he was referring to the sin of adultery that he had just forgiven her for. We are not to continue in our sin once we have repented however, we still live in a sinful world.
I was overwhelmed by this person’s beliefs. I have never heard of this before! I’m wondering what you all think. Leave your comments about sin. Are we sinful or can we live a sinless life?
